Foreword
For professional reasons, I had to go to Singapore a few days. Julie joined me as well, mainly to enjoy some shopping...! We stayed there for 5-6 days and had a good time although the city itself is very tiring.
From many standpoints, Singapore is an interesting city. It looks good and there is in the air a permanent sense of self-regeneration.
It is particularly true for some of the buildings, true landmarks such as the 2 steel & glass durians on the Esplanade:
Food stories
Movenpick ice creams and Black Pepper Crabs. No other comments!
Shopping
Whatever you do, you always end up in a shopping mall. Consumption is one of the pillars of the Singaporean economy and everything is made for you to spend time (and $$$) in shopping centers.
As this is the Sales period, we enjoyed buying ourselves a couple of things. The choice is huge and we were impressed by the helpfulness and the commitment of the shop's staffs.
Hotel
Accomodation is not cheap. We booked ourselves a small 'boutique' hotel near the Outram Park area. I will post a review of it on TripAdvisor some day, check it out
here.
ORGANIZATION ! ! ! ! ! !
And organization, and more organization. Everything is simply organized. Sometimes it is simply too much, like it may be a headache to cross the street, as pedestrians are not really the priority on the roads. Though it is not bad at all.
Public transportation works very well, buses, subways ("MRT") are integrated altogether, both in terms of correspondance and locations.
Many countries should be inspired by the Singaporean's transport system (who said France?).
Culture?
Compared to Ho Chi Minh City, one can expect to see a more active cultural scene in Singapore. For instance, I was happy to see the "Da Vinci The Genius" exhibition at the Science Center, though it was not as good as advertised. However, there are 2 huge bookstores, with all it takes to make an happy bookworm. Kunikuniya @ Takashiyama and as pictured below, Page One @ Vivocity.
Well, that's all for now, have a good time!
