It has been years since I started bitching about my DSLR, the Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D). Released by Canon early 2005 and bought late 2006, I hate its tiny screen, the poor ISO performance, the inaccessibility of some functions, its built quality, etc., etc. 3 years old and a mere 10'000 pictures later, it was time to switch. The 50D did not completely fulfill all my wishes, notably the Wireless flash triggering and the viewfinder. A year later, the solution finally appeared, and yesterday it arrived, under the form of a brand new Canon EOS 7D (thanks to my wife :)) Rather than going in details and prepare a full review (I do not have the expertise for it anyway), I simply list here what I love, like, dislike and hate about this new body. Ok, I should not have lost my lens cap. But shit happens and it has been a mere 2 to 3 weeks I am looking almost all over Saigon to find a replacement.
When I purchsed my new speedlight, the Canon service center did not have. At the commercial center, they had only the Nikons (I actually would not mind much) and the Canon importer does not import those...
Finally I found it at the Fashion TV Bar... I know how this sounds but it is quite true. The husband's owner of the bar runs a cranky photographic accessories shop and workshop (around the number 21 of Ton That Thiep street).
Where BH sells it 8.5$ in the US, I bought mine for 80,000 VND ; about 4.5 to 5$. And it is the old model.
And truly, this one is a lot better, understand sturdier. It just won't pop out of the lens unless you want to. So sometimes you can find the good old stuff for cheaper than the crapy new one, and wonder why is that so?
Today, I like Vietnam a bit more. I hope they have the 77mm version so that I can equipped my future lens with a retro look...
Hey, I finally bought myself a new toy... Much long expected. And I went for the big one !...
Finish the poor lit pictures such as this one or even that one (from our recent trip to Europe)
It is a very powerful tool and Planet Neil tutorials make a great job at explaining the tricks of the flash photography.
If you have had the chance to see this news, you probably by now what this post means ans what is it about.
Well, if you did not catch up with this, I recently took over the good ol' camera from my father ; almost 30 years old and awfully fully manual !
Here are the results of the first two rolls. There are not much pictures (21 out of 24+36 !) as I had to discover a few tricks of the machine : manual focus, the 50mm lens is crap at f/1.8 (all blurred !), how to prevent uncalled shots, etc.... However, I find myself not unhappy with the results ; tinted like only the film can do and with good bokeh !
Most of the pictures feature my wife, most of them taken by myself as well. The #14 is one of my favorite portrait (of me) and I really like the #5.
#21, #23 & #24 are friends from Victoria.
Most of the pictures were taken in Saigon, Bangkok and Ayuthaya.
Now you may take a look.
